Charl du Plessis is the newly crowned Grand Masters Waveski World Champ after winning at Portugal in August 2011.

Charl made his Western Province waveski debut in 1981 and has not missed a South African National Championship since then, captaining the Western Province side for many years and reaching the finals several times over. With 21 Argus Cycle tours also under his belt, Charl is a great sportsman, a devoted father and a true gentleman.

Sample ImageThe 2011 Glacéau Vitamin Water SA Closed Waveski Champs finished on Saturday the 30th of April with the prizegiving and a last chance for the competitors from all along the coast of South Africa to have a drink and a chat together. Three tough days of competition in big, powerful waves were over and Reef had its way with a few unlucky waveski surfers and wove its magic over all of the competitors as the weather, setting and waves came together for a great event.

The 2011 SA Waveski Closed Championships and the SA Waveski Team Selection will take place at Nahoon Reef in East London on the 28th to the 30th of April.

Nahoon Reef is famous for its consistent and high quality surf break. It must give the local boys a bit of an advantage, but if you are on top of your surf game you should be able to really go to town on the long steep wave. The briefing will be on the evening of the 27th.

I hear some of the Capetonians have asked about sharks!!! Come-on guys you are from Shark Central. I've been surfing Reef at dawn for 18 months now and have seen 300+ dolphins and 0 sharks.

With Professional Judges and a great venue, this is one to be at, so come and join us in the Eastern Cape. While here, try some of our other breaks at Gonubie and Queensberry or stop in at Port Elizabeth or Port Alfred. Just remember your surf manners.

For those hoping to make the SA Waveski Team for the World Waveski Championships in Portugal, don't forget to notify CSA and Doug Copeland (SAWSA President) on the official form. I will post all of the related material here as soon as I can.
